Kilometres 4 Kids

Across the Border We Go.

Posted: 25 October 2007

Day four of the Kilometres for Kids was once again a full group ride where we covered 130 Kilometres and crossed the border into Victoria. Three long days on the road meant a few sore legs thismorning and the climbs out of Merimbula were most unwelcome! From the time we left Sydney it feels like we have been traveling up hill! Plenty more climbs again today and the group worked as a team to help up some of the riders who were feeling the effects of a few tough days in the saddle. The combination of hills and tiredness made for a "stop-start" kind of ride for the first few hours but we eventually got into a rhythm and enjoyed the slightly flatter roads closer to the Victorian border.

There is some truly beautiful countryside in this region with rolling hills, green pastures and fantastic lake and ocean views along the route. Our final destination for the day is the small country Town of Cann River. There's a pub, a couple of small hotels, a petrol station and a diner. The pub was the place to be as we all enjoyed a hearty country pub dinner (Sean Brophy tucked into a massive steak, chips, eggs and gravy - diet of a champion) and had a few beers and laughs with the locals.

Tomorrow's ride into Lakes Entrance will preceed our rest day so no doubt with the thought of a day off the bike the pace might get a little hot as the group anticipates a well earned break and a few beers.

Also, cheers to Gerard Florian who celebrated his 42nd birthday with us on the ride today!
