Day 9 Grant Presentation - Hannah Maynard - Melbourne
Posted: 13 November 2007
And this is what it was all about, all the Kilometres and all that came along with them brought us to the finish line to give our two last grants. First of the last went to little Hannah Maynard, who met us at Erdi Plaza. With mum Karen in tow, Hannah was not in the best of moods that day, but kids will be kids (which is one of the messages we had been preaching all the way from Sydney, that is that these kids are kids too and deserve to have their child hood be as enjoyable and special as our own was). Hannah is a robust and active 4 year old with spastic quadriplegia and a cortical vision impairment. Hannah and mum Karen live with together with her grandparents who all support Hannah with every daily activity. All the things we just do without a moments thought: walking, eating, drinking, bathing, dressing – Hannah needs the support of three adults to get through each day.
JMF proudly donated $7,000 to Hannah and her family for the renovation of their home’s bathroom facility. As Hannah gets older, she is growing (as kids do) and she needs more room in the bathroom for herself and family to assist. She’ll soon need a hoist an adapted bath chair and toilet for her special needs. Its never easy for Karen, but she tells us the renovations to the bathroom as provided by JMF will make a world of difference for her and Hannah.
